Inspired by Whitman’s “There was a child went forth every day,” we will describe our daily rituals and learn to transform ourselves with the nature and man-made objects around us. We will use our voices to improvise and generate electric imagery for the page and share our work in a nurturing environment. Be prepared to move and connect with your fellow poets using your eyes and ears and hands and heart. We will explore Whitman’s love for the verb and physicalize our poem with feeling when we whisper, shout and sing our lines.

Recommended for ages 10 and up.

This is part of the multi-venue, 12-day Walt Whitman 200 Festival, celebrating the 200th anniversary of the birth of one of America’s most significant and enduring poets, who was a resident of Washington, DC for ten years during and after the Civil War.
