Cover Prince George's Suite Fall/Holiday 2008 Special Edition featuring the art work of Tim Hinton
Welcome to Prince George's Suite magazine online.
About The Cover
There have been many magazine covers devoted to Barack Obama's historic achievement in becoming the nation's
44th president. Our cover salutes the first African American to crack that barrier as well with a reproduction
of an oil painting by local artist Tim Hinton. The work, entitled "Unyielding Faith," will be hung at the
McKenna Museum of African American Art in New Orleans in 2009. Hinton's work depicts the President-Elect with
a part in his hair - which is the way it was styled in a photo of Obama that Hinton referenced. He says
Obama's quiet strength and himility in the ace of adversity influenced the work. As a Viet Nam Veteran with two
Purple Hearts, Hinton says the flag is the flag that "I fought under. It means a lot to me." Hinton's deft brush
strokes are accustomed to capturing history's benchmark moments. He designed the official poster for the signing
of the Martin Luther King Holiday Legislature in 1983 at the White House. Tim Hinton has been painting professionally
for over 35 years. His art work spans several styles and mediums and has been exhibited extensively in both the
U.S. and abroad. Mr. Hinton primarily develops commissioned art, including heirloom portraits. He is a long-time
resident of Prince George's County and currently lives in Lanham, Md. For more information, please visit
