Some of Prince George’s top developers will gather next month to share their wisdom to help small and minority businesses jump start their operations.
Sponsored by the Prince George’s County Office of Central Services Minority Business Division, the theme of the event is “Readiness for Success” and will focus on resources for capital development.
County officials said the event will feature panel discussions with developers of multi-billion dollar projects such as Petrie Ross and Konterra. The day will also feature custom design workshops that will cover financing, bonding and capitalization; joint ventures and partnering, as well as infrastructure development.

Representatives from the U.S. Small Business Administration, Governor’s Minority Affairs Office, Maryland Procurement Technical Assistant Program, and the Growth Coach will also be on hand to offer further information to aid small and minority businesses.
The county is currently enjoying an economic renaissance. Wall Street rating agency Standard & Poor’s recently moved Prince George’s bond rating to AAA from AA+. S&P said the county's upgraded rating is based on the continued growth of Prince's George's financial strength that has weathered various economic cycles. Additionally, S&P noted that the county has generated consistent surpluses which have contributed to a very strong reserve despite the occurrence of tax-rate constraints.
The economic boom in the county has largely been driven by massive development projects. Among them, National Harbor on the banks of the Potomac, Konterra in Laurel, University Town center in Hyattsville, the University of Maryland's M-Square Research Development Park, and East Campus, a new mixed use project in College Park that is two times the size of downtown Silver Spring.
The Business Fair will be held on July 9 at the Camelot of Upper Marlboro at 13901 Central Avenue in Upper Marlboro. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the opening session will begin at 9 a.m. There is a $35 fee to attend.
