Keller Williams, More Than Just Home Realty

By Reneé D. Campbell

When you hear Keller Williams what do you think of? Realty. Right? Actually, the firm’s interests have grown beyond just bricks and mortar. For the past several years, Keller Williams Preferred Properties has been reaching out to public schools by giving a boost to the world of education.

This year, Keller Williams sponsored its fourth annual scholarship breakfast. The ‘Scholarships for Books Breakfast’ selects deserving high school seniors who are attending high school in the Prince George’s County area for the program. The event was held on April 18 at The Camelot in Upper Marlboro.

Graduating seniors in the Prince George’s County Public School system who have demonstrated a financial need as well as scholastic and academic achievements received the $500 book scholarship. This award will help them purchase books for their first year of college and is directly deposited at the institution of higher learning of their choosing.

The goal of this breakfast is to provide 40 students with scholarships for their college education as well as support the National Dictionary Project which donates dictionaries throughout the country each year. The Scholarships for Books program donates 700 dictionaries to third grade elementary school children attending public schools in Prince George’s. This was a big help because the school system has faced reductions in its budget.
