Lunch and Leadership: Maryland Lt. Gov. Brown Breaks Bread with Local Media

Maybe it was his military training involuntarily kicking in. Maryland Lt. Governor Anthony Brown jumped right into discussing the business of the state despite the best efforts of his aides for the first half of the lunch to be more relaxed and conversational.

Brown organized a small lunch with county media at Upper Marlboro’s Old Town Inn April 24.

“There are several accomplishments gained during this past session that we are proud of within the administration,” Brown said even before his burger and fries arrived at the table. He shared successes on education (k-12 and college access aid), Medicaid, crime reduction and economic recovery. “We are first in the nation in education, we were first to receive stimulus support” he said. “And crime is decreasing in Prince George’s County.” See video.

Brown suggested that the O’Malley Administration has a keen interest in addressing the issues of concern to Prince Georgians. The state leader also touched upon the advantages of BRAC and proximity to the nation’s capital with regard to the job outlook.

Himself a Prince Georgian, Brown shared his stake in the success—and safety—of county residents. “My son starts softball and I get to go out to about one practice per week,” he said. And as for stricter legislation around young drivers: “My daughter will be driving soon,” he said of his teenager. “I want to get this right.”
