15 Cures for Cabin Fever

Wii is the family fun game of the decade but how long can you swing yourself at the TV? Besides, it’s not the only thing. Take a look at a few of these ideas and feel free to improvise along the way.

1. It’s a family day. Why not get the kids involved in the family tree? Between the photo albums, oral history and the Web, this is a great teachable moment to get everybody up to speed on who the relatives are. Too many of us don’t know enough about our family history. Get into your Roots.

2. Pet projects around the house: Closets, clothing donations, cabinet cleaning -- finish what you started.

3. Personal Journaling. Have you been in touch with yourself lately?

4. Comcast’s interactive games. Some cable providers have a few options to check out. And while you’re at it explore all that other stuff on the super remote they give you.

The family that plays together, stays together.

5. Go through your e-mail.You know you’ve been meaning to do it.

6. Get some sleep and some rest. Remember there’s a difference between sleep and rest and the body needs both. Give yourself a vacation.

7. Get the taxes done. Be ready to get your refund early.

8. Pet project 2: Groom the dog, clip the cat’s claws, change fish/turtle tank (they will really appreciate it).

9. Exercise. You don’t have to pump up like Arnold but a few toe touches does a body good. Work with a little music and it gets better.

10. Play real games: Remember hide & seek? Board games? Dust off the Risk and Monopoly boards. Oulling out a deck of cards can be fun too, Bid Whist is still the game of choice for most here, but anything goes.

11. Treasure hunt: whether you’re looking for work or not, this is a good time to look around. Job search online and update the resume

12. Build a snowman, release some tension in the front yard. What better opportunity do you have to throw your teen-aged kids around without being hauled into family court?

13. Open a Cookbook. This might be a good time to try one of those new recipes or to gather plans for preparing a new dish this weekend -- Valentine’s Day is coming.

14. Old movies: Take a ride down memory lane and bring your kids along. Select some of your favorites from back oin the day and give your kids a chance to see what was cool and who was hot back when.

15. Worship. Grab your bible, koran, tanakh or whatever scripture you worship under and read. Feed the soul.
