The illuminated sculptures by local artist Melissa Burley, strive to investigate the concept of “beauty after death”. Incorporating natural, manmade and recycled materials, Ms. Burley creates beautiful and complex, machine inspired, compositions, bathed in light, that seek to highlight and call attention to our role in the preservation of this Earth. By incorporating a strong light source and combining and arranging discarded artifacts that ordinarily would end up in a landfill, Ms. Burley creates a wide pattern of shadows on the surrounding wall and floor surfaces, thereby luring in the viewer.
