MGM National Harbor Among 5 Maryland Casinos Approved for State’s First Sports Betting Licenses

The Sports Wagering Application Review Commission, who was created to reviews applications for sports wagering licenses, and awards Class A-1 and A-2 facility licenses to large video lottery operators and specified major sports franchises in the State, has approved five casinos in Maryland to start taking wagers for sports betting. MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, is one of those five casinos.

In a 5-2 vote by the commission, sports wagering licenses for the casinos was approved allowing them to participate in legal sportsbooks as other states have already been doing so. Last year, Maryland voters overwhelmingly supported sports wagering in the general election ballot.

The Sports Wagering Application Review Commission approved licenses for the Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore, Live! Casino and Hotel in Hanover, MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Hollywood Casino in Perryville and Ocean Downs Casino in Berlin.

According to WTOP News, the five casinos were already vetted and signed off on by the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency but needed final approval from the Sports Wagering Application Review Commission. Home to six million people, Maryland is the last of the Mid- Atlantic states to legalize sports betting.
