Having Unity In The Center Of It All
Upcoming Two-Day Conference In Maryland To Address Crisis In The Black Community
The lack of investment in community resources and opportunities has been an obstacle when it comes to African Americans reaching a pathway for success. A conversation surrounded by legislators, organizations and community leaders will take place July 8-9, 2022, to explore the state of Black people in the state of Maryland and identify those crises faced by a community trying to establish a national blueprint regarding research and community engagement in the Black Community.
Taking place at Morgan State University’s Earl G. Graves School of Business & Management in Baltimore, MD, ‘The Crisis in the Black CommUnity Conference,’ is being hosted by Morgan State University in partnership with the Caucus of African American Leaders, Maryland State NAACP Conference, and the Black Caucus Foundation.
This conference arises as the Black Community in Maryland and in the United States continue to be underserved, undervalued and marginalized, this is being felt from the historic counties on the Eastern shore as well the suburban and urban areas such as: Anne Arundel, Montgomery, Prince George’s County and Baltimore City. We are brought here today by our shared concern to address the inequities and issues that plague our community and that have a detrimental impact on the quality of lives for generations.
Robert Johnson, executive director of My Brother's Keeper for the Prince Georges' County Network, states in the press release that the conference’s goal is to develop a strategic plan that will create equitable pathways and opportunities towards success for our community. “We are bringing together the leading experts in one setting to discuss economics, politics, business, education, healthcare, criminal &; social justice and more to identify commonalities that pose a hindrance and a barrier to opportunities and success,” Johnson said.
The purpose of this event is to accelerate the process to redefine, reclaim, repurpose, and reinvest in our Black CommUnities. It is our goal to engage in solution-oriented dialogue with CommUnity leaders like you throughout the great state of Maryland. We will not only discuss common challenges and issues within the Black CommUnity but will also develop viable solutions to overcome these issues. This two-day conference will focus on topics surrounding the areas of civic engagement, voting rights, economics, education, criminal justice, environmental justice, and more! It is our aim to educate, inform, and organize our CommUnity on issues that have a deleterious impact on people of color; thereby creating a path forward.
This conference is a means to promote awareness and fruitful conversations for all in attendance. We hope to build momentous support and resources to provide viable, long-lasting solutions to those challenges which are significant and not constructive to the development and growth of the Black Community.
